AU_WiFi

AU_WiFi is the primary wireless network for Auburn University, with 802.11n speed and WPA2 secure encryption. All employees and students of Auburn University are granted access, and temporary guest accounts can be acquired by contacting the OIT HelpDesk at 334-844-4944 or by emailing helpdesk@auburn.edu. AU_WiFi is the successor to the previous campus wide network, Tsunami, which was unsecured.[1]

Configuration[edit | edit source]

These are the settings necessary to properly connect to AU_WiFi. Your operating system may not ask for every piece of information below, but these are definitely correct values.

CA Certificate Optional Some operating systems may warn the user if no CA certificate is provided. The student should be able to safely ignore the warning and proceed. If the student desires or finds that he requires a CA certificate, one may be acquired from the OIT HelpDesk.

Specific platforms[edit | edit source]

Linux[edit | edit source]

Some users of Linux-based operating systems may have difficulty connecting, or reliably connecting, to Wifi networks. This can be attributed to Linux systems' historical difficulties with wireless card drivers.

Atheros[edit | edit source]

Atheros cards (running the ath9k driver) are able to connect to AU_WiFi with the above settings when running Linux, however they seem to quietly disconnect after a short period of time (a few seconds to a few minutes). No disconnect message is seen, the connection simply ceases to function.

Difficulties with Atheros cards were resolved by following the steps outlined at http://askubuntu.com/questions/406531/cant-reach-wi-fi-signal-on-ubuntu-but-can-do-it-on-other-os-devices-ath9k. This is confirmed to work for the following cards under Ubuntu:

  • AR9285
  • AR9271
