An ID scanner.

ID scanners are used to control access to residence halls and other restricted-access buildings. Students, faculty, and staff with permission to enter buildings may scan their TigerCards to get access. If your card is too scratched or otherwise damaged to read in a scanner, you can take it by the TigerCard office in the Student Center to have it replaced free of charge.

ID scanner locations[edit | edit source]

ID scanners often are used to access restricted buildings such as residence halls.

A large building may also have smaller areas accessible only with a card scanner, regardless of whether the entire building needs card access to enter. The Honors College Study Room in Ralph Brown Draughon library is an example. Village residence halls, as well as South Donahue, require a second card swipe to access a resident's floor of the dorm, after the first allows access to the building itself.

Operation[edit | edit source]

A typical ID scanner will flash a green LED and beep twice if the card has been accepted, or flash red and beep three times if the card has not been accepted.

If power to the building is lost, ID scanners will no longer work and the lock will default to locked (even if the building is normally unlocked by the schedule).
