The Auburn Arena replaced the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum as the location for basketball games after it was complete in 2010 as part of the development of the Village housing area. Construction began in July 2008.[2] The arena cost somewhere between $60 million and $92 million (depending on the source), with the university stating it cost $86 million in press releases. It can seat 9,121 fans for basketball games.[3] The first basketball game was held on November 12, 2010.[3] Volleyball and gymnastic are also held in here, along with the convocation ceremony, lectures, and concerts.
Small lectures may have seats set out on the court or use the bleachers, while large lectures require the use of the arena seating. The building was built as a sports arena, not a lecture hall, so the acoustics for lectures are strange and you can't hear anything if you sit near the air-conditioning vents. It has been used for the common book lectures before as well as Bill Nye's lecture on November 8, 2012.[4]
The Auburn Ticket Office is located here. This is where students go to replace missing Ignited Cards.
