Auburn Sports Arena
Built 1948

The Auburn Sports Arena (also known as the Barn) was located across from Jordan-Hare Stadium. It was originally a hangar that had been disassembled and moved from Camp Livingston, Louisiana. The site it was rebuilt at had previously been the site of stables for ROTC and the polo team.[1] It burned down on September 21, 1996, during the Auburn-LSU game. The Stadium Parking Deck now stands at its former location.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The basketball team had moved to Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum after its construction in 1969. The building was still used by the womens' gymnastic team, which lost everything. The Auburn Fire Department released a statement that they believed the fire had been started by a tailgating grill. After the fire, the university updated the guidelines for grills at tailgates to prevent future fires.[2]

The Auburn Sports Arena and the Math Annex show up as a pair of military hangers located just south of Jordan-Hare Stadium in old aerial photographs of campus.
